AT EASE DISEASE!! & I Love that Dirty Water

Back in March I bought a 5 pack of Sea Dogs general admission tickets for $20 from a fundraiser at Canaan's school.  Tuesday July 24th was the night that I wanted to go and why might you ask?

That's right for former WWE Champion, Hall of Famer, and real life GI JOE:  Sgt. Slaughter!!

We hit Denny's first for dinner and as it was Tuesday night kids eat free.  Completely unknown when the decision was made to go there.

We got to the game, got parked behind the expo, and sat in the front row of the general admission section on the third base line, my favorite place to sit at Hadlock Field.   You can see everything beautifully and in the front row you get extra leg room and don't have to get up or move when people walk by.

At the second inning they announced that Sgt. Slaughter was signing autographs.  So I went and surveyed the line, it was long, but I figured it wouldn't get much longer.  So I waited 15 minutes and went back down, and sure enough only 4 more people had gotten in line.  In the end I think I only waited in line like 20 minutes.

Just before I got to Slaughter, Mom came down with Canaan so they waited with me.  Then as Slaughter was signing my cards Slugger came over.  So Canaan and I were the only ones to get our picture taken with Sgt. Slaughter and Slugger!!

When we first got there it was quite humid, but after a very brief rain shower it turned into the perfect night for a ball game!  The Sea Dogs were playing the minor league affiliate for the New York Yankees the Trenton Thunder.  So of course Irving wore his Yankee hat and shirt.

We saw two home runs by the Sea Dogs, some great plays and the Sea Dogs won.  It was a great night!!

A goose kissing a moose?

It's a new day so how about another spontaneous adventure with Kate!  Today's adventure took us back to the mid-coast region for a hike in Fernald's Neck Preserve.

Fernald's Neck is a 328 acre parcel of land that is virtually surrounded by Lake Megunticook.  Trails totaling 3.25 miles, but hiking them all there is a lot of back tracking so your hike could be much longer.  In total we hiked over 3 miles skipping the red trail and the white trail.  The red is a short cut that bisects the blue trail and the white trail had warnings of a heavy deer tick population along it.

Where the Blue and Yellow Trail Meet

Along the Orange Trail

Mossy Rocks on the Blue Trail
The trails travel along the shore of the lake and deep through the wooded area of the Preserve.  There are several a few points of interest on the trail.  Two marked are the Balance Rock and the Mountain View.  Two others not marked that I liked is a look out on the blue trail and a unique tree growth also on the blue trail.

We couldn't find the Mountain View area but did I did snag a cool picture of the lake along the way to the orange trail.

The orange trail is the ruggedest trail where the path isn't very clear and it has a travels up and down hill and can be quite tricky at times.  The blue trail present a unique tree that was growing in the shape of a U, but is clearly dead and it's just a matter of time before it succumbs to nature.

Hiking the blue trail we came across an overlook that provided us a much need break from hiking and infestation of mosquito's.  We had sprayed down with bug spray but I believe the sweat was starting to wash it away.

We left the preserve and headed to Lincolnville Beach because Kate had never been.  She was surprised that the Beach was so close to Route 1.  I can't say I blame her, most public beaches you have to park and hike a good ways to get to it.  Here you literally park and walk onto the sand.

We waded into the water, which was chilly at first but we quickly acclimated to the temperature.  I skipped a few rocks as there was an overabundance of smooth flat rocks on the shoreline and what else do you do with them?

I had never heard this song before and learned it today!

UPDATE:  At the suggestion of Kate I have changed to music video to her favorite performer.

The Tale of the Blueberry Bandits

The weather today was absolutely gorgeous!!  You really couldn't ask for better weather.  This late afternoon Kate and I went on a spontaneous adventure.  At first we were winding our way down route 17 to Rockland for a stroll on the breakwater when Kate suddenly remembered wanting to check out the Sod roof building.

A quick search on the smart phone and I found the Beech Hill Preserve and mapped us to it!  We found the parking area on the Beech Hill Road easy enough, bug sprayed up and started out.

As it turns out there is a huge commercial organic blueberry farm production going on on the preserve land.  We couldn't help ourselves and we helped ourselves to some of the greatest berries that I have ever partaken in.

The walk to the old sod roof house presented us with some spectacular views or the surrounding area.

Kate found herself a nice flower to place in her hair and I though with the sun shining on her bright red it look cool!

At the summit is the Beech Nut Hut which in 2003 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The views are phenomenal!!  Even tough Kate looks photo shopped into one of the photos I assure you she was not!!

I even snagged an awesome photo of the sunset.  After we hiked back down, snagged a bunch more blueberries eventually making it back to the car.  I would like to reiterate that those were the best blueberries that I had ever had!

We trucked over to Moody's for some awesome pie before calling it a night!

This is a solid tune I heard on Bones the other day
