This is the 10th consecutive Mother's Day that we have gone to La Festa Brick & Brew in Dover, New Hampshire. Kate first went to La Festa pizza back before I met her when she worked at Panera Bread in Augusta. They sent her to Dover, NH to the Management Training program.
What we normally do is try to find something to do in the area on the driver to Dover. In years past we have gone to USS Albacore submarine museum, Strawbery Banke Museum, Diana's Baths waterfalls, and various other hiking trails and sights.
This year we headed out early with your first stop being at Tony's Donut Shop in Portland. We love donuts, but we are super fussy about our donuts. They are not the best for you health wise, so if I'm going to eat one I want it to be amazing, but just.
Tony's are amazing! It was the first time we had ever been there, Kate found it. When we were ordering Wesley got a chocolate glazed, and the woman said it was nice and warm. I responded with "I will take a second chocolate glazed donut" to which everyone in line had a great laugh.
We continued south to Saco and the Saco Heath Preserve nature trail. This trail features a wooded area and a 1 mile boardwalk over bog. Round trip my app measured we walked 2.66 miles.
The weather was gorgeous and it was a beautiful walk, we had a great time.
We headed to La Festa next, taking the backroads to get there. La Festa has a bunch of different slices, that is there specialty, and my favorite they make is the R2B2, sadly they didn't have any. But I did get an amazing slice of pepperoni and sausage, Kate got her buffalo chicken, and Wesley got a slice of bacon, steak, and BBQ sauce. We also got some Garlic knots to share.
After La Festa we made our annual stop at Gray Farms Greenhouses in Wells. We've stopped here several years in a row where I get my mom a hanging plant, we get one for Kate and we get our tomato seedlings. This year was no different.
On the way home we stopped at my mom's to give her, her hanging plant.
It was another successful mother's day adventure!
